As an interaction design student, I think our job is not just to make things look nice or easy to use—we also need to think about how our designs affect people’s lives. For example, if we design a shopping app that uses AI to recommend products, we need to make sure it doesn’t push people to buy things they don’t really need just to make money.
We should also be clear about what the AI is doing. Like if an app uses AI to suggest mental health advice, users should know it’s not a real doctor and understand where the info comes from. People deserve to know how their data is being used—like if an app is tracking what they click on or say.
We also have to be careful not to design things that only work well for certain people. For example, if a voice assistant only understands certain accents, that’s not fair to others. Good design should be for everyone. So our responsibility is to make smart tools that are helpful, honest, and respectful to all kinds of users.
