As AI becomes more integrated into our daily lives, we also have to be more careful and responsible for the choices that we make. I believe one of the most important responsibilities is to ensure transparency and user understanding, which means users should always know when they are interacting with an AI product. It is easy to make AI smart, but it is our responsibility to make it clear to the user to be clear.
Although a UI can be smooth and slick on the outside, there can also be “silent harms”. That means shoving people towards choices that they never wanted or expected. And through it all, it is important that as designers we stay human. AI is code, but it touches real feelings, habits, and relationships. That’s why we keep checking in with users, by asking them not only “does this work?” but “does this feel right?” In every design review, we get to be the person who asks, “Is this still good for people in the long run?” If the answer ever turn to “maybe not,” we know it’s time to rethink the design.
