{"id":553,"date":"2024-09-10T23:39:31","date_gmt":"2024-09-10T23:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.interactiondesignhistory.com\/Fall2024\/?p=553"},"modified":"2024-09-17T19:34:22","modified_gmt":"2024-09-17T19:34:22","slug":"mayan-culture-words-and-icons-from-a-weather-app","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.interactiondesignhistory.com\/Fall2024\/in-the-beginning\/mayan-culture-words-and-icons-from-a-weather-app\/","title":{"rendered":"Mayan culture words and icons from a weather app"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Introduction:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two sets of objects I&#8217;ve chosen to compare are hieroglyphs from the Mayan culture and icons from a weather app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1.What\u2019s being communicated?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They both mean \u201cwater\u201d and \u201ceyes\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2.What concepts need to be learned?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Mayans may have thought they looked like this symbol in the old days and recorded it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it means more than the icon in the app; water doesn&#8217;t just mean water it also means expected rainfall in the future.
